Set up the lobby check-in kiosk

The kiosk is the same check-in your guests do on their phones, on a tablet in your lobby. A guest finds their booking, confirms their details, signs the waiver, checks in and links a wristband. Then the screen clears itself for the next guest.

The kiosk holds no login and no staff access. Nothing on it can reach another guest’s booking once the screen has cleared.

  • An Android tablet with Chrome, for reading wristbands by tapping them on the tablet. Any tablet with a current browser works without wristband reading.
  • A QR scanner (optional, recommended), USB or Bluetooth, set to “keyboard” mode and to send Enter after each code. Guests then scan the QR code from their booking confirmation email. The kiosk never uses the tablet’s camera.
  • Your kiosk address, which we send you.
  1. Turn off the tablet’s memory for forms and passwords. In Chrome’s settings, turn off saving addresses, payment cards and passwords. If your tablets are managed centrally, set these as policies, along with not keeping browsing history. A kiosk is used by strangers one after another, so nothing they type should be offered to the next guest.
  2. Open your kiosk address in Chrome. You’ll see Check in and Type my booking reference. If it says “This screen is not set up”, contact us.
  3. Pin the screen so guests can’t leave the kiosk: on Android, Settings → Security → App pinning, then pin Chrome. Unpin it when you need to change anything.
  4. Allow wristband reading: tap a wristband on the tablet once and allow Chrome to use NFC.
  5. Keep the tablet on a charger with the screen set to stay on.
  • Scan the QR code from their booking confirmation email, which opens their booking straight away.
  • Or tap Type my booking reference, then enter the reference and the surname of the person who booked.
  • Tap their wristband once their booking is on screen to link it. A band tapped on the welcome screen says “Find your booking first. Then hold your wristband to the reader.”
  • Start over at the top of every screen begins again.

A gate pass QR code doesn’t open a booking here. The kiosk says “That QR code is for the gate” and offers the typing form instead.

  • When a guest walks away: after 90 seconds without a touch, “Still there?” shows for the last 15 seconds, then the screen clears. Ask us to change the 90 seconds.
  • When a party is done: “You’re checked in. Enjoy your visit.” The screen clears 20 seconds after Finish.
  • After any reset, the previous guest’s screens can’t be reached with the back button.

The welcome screen itself never times out.
